There it was, the truth, half formed and melting under the heat of the sun
Its rays penetrated past my defenses and struck me at the core of my senses
While I tried to fight it was hard to bring forth shields forged by circumstances
My soul curled up and hid behind my motives long held prisoner by grief
And sanity was something I found to be an end goal rather than my life lived
-
Lest I forget what came before and sink below the horizon into treasured bliss
I will listen when it speaks, destiny tapping out its unsolicited code for belief
Once heard there is no refunding of what you are given, what is suddenly owed
And with each new lesson there is bound to be a new hurdle, a new promise
Yet with all done there is no rest, not for the wicked seeking solace amid buzzards
