In March 2023, I published my debut photography book We Belong: An Anthology of Colombian Women Coffee Farmers, a collection of intimate photography accompanied by short vignettes, which is an artistic declaration that brings to light the life stories of 25 Colombian women coffee farmers and pickers. Through Bawot’s lens, the common, one-dimensional portrayal of a female coffee producer as just that—a woman toiling in a coffee field—is shattered, vividly revealing the full spectrum of women farmers’ life experiences.
To this day, the book has been launched in NYC, LA, and Portland in the US and in Bogota, Colombia. Also, more than 20 articles in different media outlets have been published in relation to the book, and more than 400+ copies have been sold.
Currently, I've been working on putting together a pilot project focusing on mental health & wellness support for the 40 women coffee farmers and pickers since from my time spent with these women I've realized how crucial and necessary this support is for them. This project aims to leverage the expertise of psychologists to help these women identify and become more conscious of their mindset, the tools they already have for their well-being and wellness, and more importantly develop new tools to face this ever-changing life.
This project will be mostly financed with a percentage of the earnings collected from the book sales during the book launch events, but also, I've been collecting monetary donations to be able to implement a more efficient and successful project.
