This Secret NYC Chinese Restaurant is Out!

May 12, 2026

Who doesn't like a great secret! Especially when you can eat it! My Black Pepper Beef Tenderloin (Hak Jiu Ngau Lau in Cantonese) recipe is live on YouTube!

imageI was inspired to make this recipe from two of the oldest Chinese restaurants in NYC, Hop Kee 17 and Wo Hop. Both restaurants have amazing Cantonese-style dishes, and both have been around for a combined 150 years!

Historically, Chinese restaurants are known for affordable delights, especially for families. And if you wanted to order Black Pepper Beef Tenderloin, you wouldn't be able to point it out on their menus.

You gotta ask for it. They're known for super-tender beef, beautifully cooked to a perfect medium and drenched in a savory brown sauce.

With some onions and bell peppers, it's one of the best plates on Hop Kee and Wo Hop's repertoire.

Check out the video and make it at home!
