26 March 2025
Rotary International clubs and community organisations continue to create lasting impact through seasonally responsive service projects. Here’s how March initiatives are building a better world across our five regions:
🌍 Western Cape: Autumn Community Care
🚴♀️ Cape Town Cycle Tour Legacy – On 9 March, the 47th Cape Town Cycle Tour saw nearly 28,000 cyclists take to the streets of Cape Town in near-perfect conditions. This iconic event, originally founded by a Rotary club in Cape Town, continues to support community impact. Blouberg Rotary contributed 40 marshals this year, helping ensure the race’s success. These paid positions generate vital funds that go straight into service projects.
🏫 Blouberg Rotary’s School Readiness – Distributing winter uniforms and supplies to township schools before the rains begin.
🌱 Harvest Share Initiative – Coordinating with vineyards to distribute excess produce to community kitchens.
💧 Water Conservation Workshops – Training community members on rainwater collection ahead of winter.
💡 Project Spotlight: At Vaatjie Mor Primary School, covered learning spaces are being built for rainy-season activities, partially funded through marshaling income.
🌸 Greenville: Spring Service Renewal
🌳 Replanting native species along the Reedy River.
🏠 Refreshing outdoor spaces at assisted living homes.
🍎 Establishing teaching gardens at schools while planting conditions are ideal.
🌮 San Antonio: Community Nurturing
🌺 Restoring historic gardens with drought-resistant plants.
📚 Expanding bilingual literacy programmes in outdoor settings.
🍇 Partnering with wineries for vocational training for youth.
🎵 Austin: Creative Community Solutions
🎸 Mentorship from local musicians in after-school programmes.
🌉 Neighbourhood clean-ups after winter damage.
🍷 Charity wine events funding summer camps for underprivileged kids.
🏔️ Reno: Seasonal Transition Support
