About SingleElephant
Welcome! I’m Don Steve—outdoor instructor, long-distance backpacker, and author.
Originally from Sri Lanka, I moved to Canada a decade ago and fell in love with the wild. From walking long-distance trails coast-to-coast to completing the Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training (COLT) program on Vancouver Island, the outdoors became my life's calling.
I write about deep-wilderness backpacking, global travels, and navigating life when it doesn't follow the map—a perspective shaped by losing over $5,000 in gear to theft, which inspired my memoir "May I Buy My Own Stolen Hiking Gear?"
Why Support?
Every cup of coffee directly helps me cover trail logistics, maintain my gear, and write detailed guides to help you navigate the backcountry—and the journey within.
If my stories or trail guides have inspired your next adventure, buying me a coffee is a great way to keep the journey going. Thank you for walking this path with me! 🥾☕
