THIS is the part they don’t want you to picture.
A baby Barred Owl. Alone.
Waiting for a mother or father who may never come back.
In Washington, Oregon and California, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Barred Owl Management Strategy authorizes lethal removal of Barred Owls. and even the agency’s own Final Environmental Impact Statement acknowledges that removing nesting adults during breeding season may result in orphaned young dying. Read that again. They know babies can be orphaned.
Imagine this little owl waiting as daylight disappears. Listening. Calling.
Hungry.
Still expecting the familiar wings that have brought food since the day it hatched.It doesn’t know what a “management strategy” is.
It doesn’t know why humans decided its parent had to die.
It only knows:
Mom isn’t coming back.
Dad isn’t coming back.
And it’s hungry.
Whatever side of this debate you’re on, don’t look away from the cost.
Baby owls are orphaned and dying!
Wildlife should not have to bleed for problems wildlife did not create.
