Understanding the Movement and Mechanics of Kipper Cartomancy through the Lens of a Witch Just Learning the System!
When Tarot witches like us first meet the Kipper cards, we often approach them the same way we learned Tarot—by hunting for archetypes, assigning keywords, or pulling meanings from our decks like threads from a tapestry.
But from what I'm learning…Kipper doesn’t quite operate that way.
Kipper doesn’t speak in symbols. It speaks in scenes.
You’re not just pulling a card—you’re stepping into a moment. Into someone’s house. Into a whisper on the street. Into the creak of a door or the hush before a scandal breaks.
These cards were born in 19th-century Germany—Hullurrr, Bavaria!—and they carry that world with them. Gossip flows. Letters arrive. A woman turns her back. A man eyes the door. Someone is planning a visit—or an escape.
What I’m starting to really fall in love with is how these cards move. Not just energetically, but visually. Literally.
They face left or right. They look toward or away from one another. They form clusters, lines, detours.
And that—the way they interact—is where the real reading starts to take shape.
So before I dive into card meanings (don’t worry, we’ll get there), I want to build a solid foundation. Let’s talk about the roles the cards play inside a Kipper spread. Because not all cards behave the same—and once I started seeing that, everything else began to click into place.
