Fiction and essays on pop culture & becoming a person
I’m George — a writer, lecturer, and psychologist from the North-East of England.
I started out in fashion, where I spent several years trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Now I teach fashion — a bit like being asked to manage the fire you started — and write about culture, queerness, taste, desire, and the strange work of becoming a person.
Most of my essays live on my Substack and are always free to read. They tend to orbit the small mechanics of modern life: what pop culture reveals about us, the odd ways people try to figure themselves out, and occasionally the short story that appears when my brain changes channels.
I’ll have three pieces traditionally published this year (so far), and a short story currently available through the BorrowBox library reading project.
If you enjoy the work and want to support it, buying me a coffee helps cover the small but very real costs of writing — submission fees, research materials, and the caffeine that keeps the whole thing running.
No pressure at all. Reading and sharing the work already means a lot.
