Über FoxLand ~ a Terra da Raposa
an art & reforestation queer feminist community
FoxLand ~ a Terra da Raposa, is a collective project combining dance/arts, reforesting and queer-eco-feminism. A Terra da Raposa is a 7 hectares land, in the middle of a beautiful soft hilled landscape, quite abused by agriculture (over-grazing from sheeps and cows, extensive eucalyptus planting around, yearly ploughing with machine….).
Our wish is :
* to rewild and reforest a big part of the land
* to create a 100m2 dance studio and a healing arts space to support the well-being and creativity of the regional community.
* to host the community daily life of womxn* artists and their children (food forest, living spaces)
Movement & healing arts space :
January 2022 : we started to renovate the old barn of the land (100m2) by fixing and plastering the outside walls. The vision is to create a dance studio for the local area, to bring the work of local teachers and international teachers to Alentejo, and have a place to work daily on embodiment practices as a community. We want this space to be oriented on community well-being, artistic and healing arts practices.
September 2022 : Thanx to a first tribe-funding we bought all the material to plaster the inside walls. This plastering action will happen this summer. We still need your support to create a wooden dance floor !
February 2023 : we finished the first layer of plastering in the inside of the barn with the helped of a friend (paid). We now need to get the final layer done and manifest a dance FLOOR.
Reforestation : In the dry winter of 2021/2022, about 80 local trees were planted. Most of them coming from the tree-nursery of Eco-intervention, a local association that supports reforestation in Alentejo + some fruit trees : almond, lemon, nesperas (loquat), kakis, medronheiros (strawberry trees) peach, prune, guava...Most trees survived summer... despite the hard sun and the hungry locusts (crickets). We bought some water hoses and pipes and taps with part of the donation received in summer 2022! That was great support, THANK YOU !
In the ok-kinda-of-rainy winter 2022/2023, about 25 more trees were planted : prunes, apples, cherries, pears, more medronheiros, neetle-tree, and some we forgot the name :)We still don’t have a proper irrigation system for next summer and water all young trees by hands as the sun and ocean wind are dreadful for them.
In winter 2023/2024 : we planted more fruits trees + a big long border of tree to get more visual privacy + some flowers :)
During winter 2024/2025: we planted another 30 trees.

Updates on co-living/community :
Update 7th of June 2023: We are now 3 queer adults + 2 kids + 5 cats and 1 dog living in FoxLand !
Update 17th of June 2024: We are now 3 adults (1 circus artist & drag-king, 1 musician-dancer-therapist, 1 dancer-writer-photographer-dj-therapist) + 2 kids + 4 cats (1 is missing...) and 1 wild cat living in FoxLand.
Update December 2025: There is now 1 woman living full-time, and 1 being living part-time, on Terra da Raposa, with 3 cats and the wild cats. Trees have grown. THis winter we will plant a few more. The community project is not active at the moment and we want to restart it.
