Hi, I'm Derrick Mutatiina, and this is my story.

In 2020, I left my home town of Ntungamo, Western Uganda for Gulu City, Northern Uganda to study Clinical Medicine at Gulu College of Health Sciences. At that time, I didn't know much about how much burden certain diseases can have not only to individuals, but also families, communities and the country at large.

Hospital placements for medical practice in the region's health facilities opened my eyes to the burden many families go through due to this genetic blood disorder known as Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)

I saw children cry bitterly on ward due to the pain, and some die due to various complications that come along with Sickle Cell Disease. I thought of doing something about this, thereby founding Tackle Sickle Cell Africa(TSCA)

Registered and licensed in 2022, TSCA is working hard together with health care providers, policy makers, caretakers and sickle cell patients in Northern Uganda (the most affected region according to statistics) to end sickle cell.

We provide free sickle cell screening and counseling services to the people, arrange sickle cell awareness campaigns, call upon for blood donation, advocate against sickle cell related stigma and for better health services for the sickle cell community.
