The Committee for Protecting Rights of Prisoners (CPRP) is a leading human rights organization in Sri Lanka dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of prisoners. Since its formation, CPRP has worked to expose and challenge violations within the prison system, including torture, extrajudicial killings, and inhuman treatment. The organization was born out of the campaign for justice following the 2012 Welikada Prison massacre, and has since grown to include former prisoners, family members, lawyers, journalists, and activists. CPRP engages in legal support, national and international advocacy, awareness campaigns, and community mobilization to ensure accountability and reform. Its work is grounded in the Sri Lankan Constitution, Prison Ordinance, and international human rights standards, with a strong commitment to supporting victims and amplifying their voices.
Every day, we stand up against torture, extrajudicial killings, inhumane treatment, and legal injustice inside police cells and prisons. We support prisoners and their families, file legal actions, gather evidence, push for accountability, and raise our voice loudly and clearly where others stay silent.
