Job Hunting through Depression

Job Hunting through Depression

Mar 06, 2026

Welcome to Brie’s Poetry Corner, where I share poems and articles related to poetry. It has been a while since I've posted, and I apologize for that. Life and current events have made writing hard lately. So, this post is a freebie this time.

I’ve been focusing more on fiction lately, so not much has happened poetry-wise. That’s not 100% true. I’ve been writing poetry (some of which might never see the light of day…what can I say but they’re not all winners), but I haven’t been studying forms much. I’m also still trying to figure out how to compile in Scrivener to see how my poems will look when I print them out.

I’m also income/job hunting. I desperately need money right now, so that has to be a priority for me. It’s taking away from my research/writing time, and that is frustrating. I need to set up a better system. I’m starting to suffer from overload and overwhelm, which obliterates my productivity. If you want to help me out and show a little love, consider making a one-time donation today.

Year-long poetry project

Depression has done nasty things to me. I’ve lost hours, days, weeks, even months to crippling depression. It sucks, but I guess that’s what medication is for. At any rate, depression decided to kick me while I’m down (I mentioned I desperately need income), so I decided to write this to help get past it. Enjoy.

Depression

I spent so much time

Waiting to grow up—

Now I’m growing old.

Somehow, adulthood escaped me.

I blink, and the hours

Have flown right by,

As if given pretty wings

And encouraged to soar.

Depression can steal so much—

It took away my life.

The hours and day I’ve lost

Won’t ever return to me.

And here I sit, confused—

Wondering if this is it—

My lost life and me

Waiting for life’s door to close.

That’s all for now. Next time, I’ll talk about another aspect of poetry and give an update on where projects are at the moment. But, for now, grab a cup of tea or coffee, sit back, relax, and read some poetry.
