Simple nominal sentence (Standard Arabic).

In Arabic, there are two types of sentences: Nominal sentence and verbal sentence.

In this post we'll explore the nominal type:

The nominal sentence consists of two parts:

Subject + Predicate (aka: information)

Let's take few examples:

الطَّقْسُ حارٌّ

The weather is hot.

البَيْتُ كَبيرٌ

The house is big.

السَّيَّارَةُ جَميلَةٌ

The car is beautiful.

مُحَمَّد في المَدْرَسَة.

Mohamed is at school.

أَنا مِن تونِس.

I'm from Tunisia.

Note that the nominal sentence always starts with a noun (never with a verb).

قِطّ (male cat)

قِطَّة (female cat)

2- The desk is clean

مَكْتَب : desk

نَظيف : clean

3- The kitchen is small

مَطْبَخ kitchen

صَغير small

4- The phone is elegant

هاتِف phone

أَنيق elegant
