Ashley Bouman is a local  artist, queer community activist, licensed paralegal, and disability advocate that currently resides in Northumberland County.

She is well-known for her comprehensive Pronoun Usage & Trans Advocacy in Northumberland County webinar/presentation that was specifically designed for local not-for-profits and small businesses on how to create a safer environment for everyone in the community. She has presented this webinar for the Cobourg Police Services, Northumberland United Way Board of Directors, THRIVE Northumberland among other local organisations.

It is through her passion for continued learning and love of research that she wants to create educational materials that answer the questions that people have regarding the queer community and LGBTQ+ advocacy, the importance of creating an EDI culture in the workplace and utilising her creativity to present important information in fun and compelling ways all while making sure it is accessible and available.

She has been involved with PFLAG’s Cobourg Chapter since 2014 as the Volunteer Events Coordinator. In 2016, she became Chapter Leader when the previous leader stepped down. In this role she facilitates a monthly support group, coordinates Pride events and festivities in Northumberland County for Pride Month, and other LGBTQ+ events throughout the year while promoting community awareness and educational webinars of queer rights and advocacy.

In the Spring of 2019, she delegated in front of the Cobourg Town Council to raise a rainbow flag at town hall in recognition and declaration of Pride Month. It was decided that the sitting council would officially observe June as Pride Month in Cobourg. The town marked the occasion with a rainbow flag raising and a rainbow crosswalk right beside Victoria Hall.

She has a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in English Literature and Women’s Studies from Trent University. She attended George Brown College in their Assaulted Women and Children’s Counselling and Advocacy Program and has recently become a licensed Paralegal in the province of Ontario after completing her Paralegal Studies diploma from Durham College.
