I'm a researcher in audio and deep learning, and a professor of acoustics. I code every day — for research, for teaching, and for building things that don't exist yet.

JackMate is one of those things.

In my lab, we run both Linux and macOS machines, and we use real-time interactions between jack audio clients for complex experimental setups everyday.

There's a real paradox: on Linux, JACK tooling is rich and mature, but professional hardware support is often a headache. On macOS, it's the opposite — hardware compatibility is excellent, the user experience is generally what Apple does best, yet no proper / advanced native tool exists to manage the wondeful tool that Jack Audio Connection Kit is.

JackMate is my contribution to fixing that imbalance, and I'm confident it will also be useful for audio enthusiasts, audio researchers, musicians and sound engineers. It's a solo project, built in my spare time, free and open source. No company, no funding. JackMate is an advanced and user friendly tool that my lab colleagues and I needed, that you might need too. It can also be a great entry point for discovering JACK on macOS if you’re not familiar with it yet.
