What Is Financial Health?

Jun 11, 2025

In today’s world, economic progress dominates headlines and dinner-table conversations alike. We track inflation rates, mounting debt levels, and swings in purchasing power—but rarely do we ask whether rising GDP actually translates into better lives. As a personal finance coach, I believe that improvements in individuals lives should be measured with something that goes deeper.

Economic indicators measure output, but they don’t capture human well-being. A country can boast record income levels while its citizens struggle with anxiety, burnout, or loneliness. Similarly, an individual may earn more year after year, yet feel trapped by stress and uncertainty. When “economic advancement” becomes merely a number on a chart, we lose sight of its ultimate purpose: supporting a meaningful, balanced life.

To me Financial Health is the bridge between numbers and lived experience, as it has a better Philosophical Foundation by aiming at the well-being of the individual, takes into consideration their Subjective Condition, and provides a Practical Framework on which anyone seeking to improve can do so.

Across generations and geographies, studies consistently show that beyond a basic comfort level, additional income has diminishing returns on happiness. Yet our public discourse remains fixated on “more.” We hear daily about rising costs, stagnant wages, and the threat of recession—but seldom about how money might better serve our lives.

Imagine an economic conversation that begins with a careful attention to “How are you feeling?” instead of “How much did you earn?”

That’s the essence of Financial Health.
