My name is Yoni Charis. I was born in Cameroon, I moved to Texas for college but currently reside in Bermuda with my wife and son. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wichita Falls, Texas, and an MSN in Education from Walden University.

I have always been passionate about music from a very young age. I sang alto at a choir in Cameroon and always desired to play the piano but the opportunity never came through until I moved to Texas.

I started learning how to play musical instruments such as the guitar and the keyboard in 2011 and had my first shot to play at a small church pastored by a friend. The keyboardist could no longer play on Sundays due to work engagements.

I took that as an opportunity to learn chords on the keyboard and eventually started making progress with leading worship. I led worship at our bible study held in our apartment and eventually at a new church my pastor founded called Gospel Culture. We started with about 6 people and eventually grew.

My lofi journey started in 2020 when I was on vacation and paternity leave for about about 6 weeks. I bought audio equipment on amazon and started making beats. My journey with rap music dates back to 2006 when I recorded my first rap song but I did not have any exposure to music production until I moved to Texas. Texas is special to me!!!

A friend of mine showed me a few basic tricks on recording music but I could not keep up due to the busyness of nursing school.

So while in Bermuda during the pandemic, I consumed a lot of videos on music production and came across lofi music. I really loved the sound and began making lofi music. The more I learned, the more I desired to create Christian lofi because there were very few artists who were in this genre.

My vision was to create Christian lofi for everybody. Some of the lofi channels I listened to had very dark, sad tones, and suggestive thumbnails. I wanted to create something that was clean, Spirit-led, and word-based.

Here are the scriptures that inspire me to make music:

Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Psalms 96:1

1Hallelujah!a

Praise God in His sanctuary.

Praise Him in His mighty heavens.b

2Praise Him for His mighty acts;

praise Him for His excellent greatness.

3Praise Him with the sound of the horn;

praise Him with the harp and lyre.

4Praise Him with tambourine and dancing;

praise Him with strings and flute.

5Praise Him with clashing cymbals;

praise Him with resounding cymbals.

6Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!

Hallelujah! Psalm 150

Well, you may say, what makes my music Christian? In my next post, I will explain why my music is "Christian lofi."
