Time to slow down

Jun 13, 2024

The one thing I love about practicing my photography is that it slows me down. It forces me to stop and listen to the sounds of nature and allows me to see more. To see things that I would otherwise miss.

Today I think I needed to get out. You know that feeling, when you’ve been locked inside your own head for a while or sat behind a desk for days on end and you just need to get out of your own head. Well that was me. So I decided to head out to my local park despite the grey clouds looming, for a bit of wildlife photography. I only intended to complete a short 30 min loop of the lake but instead found myself sat for hours watching the different birds.

The grey weather certainly didn’t keep the wildlife away. My most exciting encounter was with a male and female woodpecker pair. Normally they seem very elusive to me and I’ve only ever spotted one once before on a wander.

It was busy when I first arrived at the bird hide, but no one else seemed patient today and as quickly as people arrived they seemed to disappear again, missing out on this gorgeous pair.

After leaving the hide I found my favourite thing. A hidden bench with a family of squirrels roaming near by. They each seemed fairly confident and happily ate there snacks and jumped about in the trees as I sat photographing them.

I hope you enjoy the photos attached, I’m sharing them here with you all first. imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage
