What began as a practical journey through Michael DeBellis' classic pizza.owl tutorial has grown into something much bigger.
I started by recording hands-on Protégé tutorials and rebuilding the exercises step by step. That work evolved into a living eBook: Mastering Ontology Engineering with Protégé and Pizza.owl — connecting ontology engineering, Description Logic, reasoning, knowledge graphs, Enterprise Architecture, and ultimately my Executable Knowledge Architecture (EKA) framework.
Today, the project has reached a major milestone:
📘 Volume 1 — Chapter 00-08 -- Ontology Foundation in Protégé
Start here. Install Protégé, build your first classes, run a reasoner, and meet the Executable Knowledge Architecture (EKA) framework that ties the whole series together. — published on Leanpub & Amazon Kindle.
📘 Volume 2 — Chapters 09-13 -- Object Properties, Characteristics, Domain and Range
Turn a static class hierarchy into a real semantic graph: object properties, inverse properties, property characteristics, and domain/range. — published on Leanpub & Amazon Kindle.
📘 Volume 3 — Chapters 14-16 -- Semantic Requirements and EKA Governance
Turn a static class hierarchy into a real semantic graph: object properties, inverse properties, property characteristics, and domain/range. — published on Leanpub & Amazon Kindle.
🚀 Volume 4 — SKDL in progress
Chapters 17–24 are being developed around the Semantic Knowledge Development Lifecycle — from Conceptual Modeling and Semantic Description to Knowledge Reuse, Governance, Validation, Reasoning, and Executable Knowledge.
And more volumes after that.
But this isn't just a book.
The complete source materials, ontology models, exercises, videos, and evolving chapters are openly available in the GitHub repository under CC BY-SA 4.0. The goal is to build a practical, continuously evolving learning environment for ontology engineering and executable knowledge.
🙏 How you can support the project
⭐ Star the GitHub repository — it helps others discover the project.
🍴 Fork the repository — experiment with the models, improve them, or build your own learning path.
💬 Open an Issue or Discussion — questions and corrections are genuinely valuable to this living project.
📘 Buy the eBook — your purchase directly supports the continued writing, research, video production, and maintenance of this project.
The journey begins with pizza.
But the real subject is meaning — and how knowledge can become reusable, governed, reasoned, and ultimately executable.
Thank you for reading, learning, contributing, or simply following the journey. ❤️
