Why do you feel guilty for having needs?

Why do you feel guilty for having needs?

4 of Pentacles reversed…

Be honest, you don’t think your needs are too much,
you just think they’re inconvenient for other people.

And instead of risking that?
You drop them. You downplay them. You act like you’re “chill.”

That’s the 4 of Pentacles reversed.
Not holding on too tight, but actually letting go of yourself a little too easily.

You give, you adjust, you understand but when it’s your turn?
Suddenly it’s “it’s fine” and “don’t worry about it.”

No. Let’s stop that.

You’re not low-maintenance.
You’re just used to not being met.

Let’s talk about this for a second,

A lot of this doesn’t just come out of nowhere.

As children, a lot of us learned that asking for things didn’t feel safe.
Maybe it got you yelled at.
Maybe it got you in trouble.
Maybe you were ignored.
Or for some of you, it went even further than that.

So you learned to stop asking.

And the thing is, it wasn’t because something was wrong with you.
A lot of the time, the people around you didn’t know how to regulate themselves.
They were overwhelmed, reactive, or dealing with their own issues,
and you were the one who adjusted.

But now that behavior?
It didn’t stay in childhood.

It followed you into your relationships.

Now you’re the one who hesitates.
You overthink.
You soften your needs.
You try to say things in the “right way” so nobody gets uncomfortable.

But let me be clear about something:

If someone feels uncomfortable because you expressed a need

that does not mean your need is the problem.

And, if you can’t be honest about what you need with someone,
they are not a safe place for you in the first place.

Reflection:
Where in your life are you holding back what you need, just to keep the peace?
