I am recommending selling shares in the S&P 500 Growth fund this morning to protect our recent profits.
· Sell the SPDR S&P 500 Growth Fund (SPYG). Bought 4/24/25: $79.50. SOLD 9/2/25 intraday price: $98.13. Return for this trade: $1863/100 shares (23.4%).
Otherwise, I am raising the Sell stops on our remaining positions and continuing to recommend that any new money that goes into 401 (k) or IRA accounts should be heavily tilted toward the cash (money market fund) component. We're doing this in order to raise cash for the next buying opportunity.
Market Update
The New York Stock Exchange Advance Decline line ( NYAD) made a new high last week, but is selling off this morning, setting a somber tone for the market.
The S&P 500 (SPX) broke below its 20-day moving average setting up some short term weakness. 6250-6400 is short term support.
The U.S. Ten Year Note yield (TNX) is still below the key 4.3% resistance level.
Update - Raise Sell stop on Homebuilder ETF (XHB)
Our portfolio continues to act well and I recommend adding to positions based on your assessment of the guidelines provided above.
The SPDR S&P Homebuilders ETF (XHB) continues to move steadily higher as the prospect for lower interest rates from the Fed has increased attention in the homebuilder sector. I've raised the Sell stop to preserve our profits.
