About Wolf Robert Stratmann
Wolf Robert Stratmann is a young bassist from Bielefeld, Germany, who studied Audio Design and Music Production at the SRH School of Popular Arts (hdpk) in Berlin. During this time he collaborated with various projects and artists of pop and jazz music (incl. CATT, VΛLUE, Marie Feiler, Die Lochis, Alice Merton, Big Band Kameleon, Musication Big Band (UdK), Berliner Jugend Jazz Orchester, Jugendclub der Deutschen Oper Berlin, Mirko Firzlaff, Ya Puso La Marrana, Zustra, M!co).
After releasing his own music with the Aeroglyph Collective and a preparatory year at the Musikschule City West Berlin, he decided to continue his musical journey in Jazz in the Netherlands at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. There he worked primarily on his contemporary jazz project, the "SWL trio", with which he regularly performed his original music in the Netherlands and in Germany, including a feature with the German guitarist Axel Fischbacher. Furthermore, he was active in a working band project called “The Jinjies”, a project that focused on traditional Jazz repertoire, American Songbook Classics and renown Latin pieces. On the side he started aswell to produce lofi inspired music under the alias "Pineapplehead". During the end of his studies Wolf Robert had as well the opportunity to share the stage with Italian Tenor Saxophonist Claudio Jr. De Rosa and the German Drummer Felix Schlarmann and recorded for the Italian Composer and Guitarist Stefano Gullo.
After successfully finishing his Bachelor studies and receiving a scholarship he now moved to New York City to study at The New School the Master Program Jazz Performer/Composer under Buster Williams and Kevin Scott. Shortly after his arrival in NYC he formed the Contemporary Jazz trio “JSJ trio” with his long time collaborator and life partner Sujae Jung and newly made friend, Anders Bak Julsgaard, from Denmark. They recently recorded new Originals at the GSI Studios in New York City and plan a release for later this year on the New York City based label 29th Street Editions.
Among others Wolf Robert took regular or recurring bass lessons from Björn Werra, Simon Pauli, Paul Kleber, Horst Nonnenmacher, Roberto Badoglio, Mark Haanstra, Gulli Guðmundsson, Roelof Meijer, Evan Marien, Petros Klampanis, Tim Lefebvre, Marcus McLaurine, Steve Cardenas and Marko Djordjevic.
