We have been trying new recipes at our home, and it’s been interesting and a bit gross at times. But the idea is to eat healthy and not spend a lot of money.
First up was some yogurt bagels. Made with Greek yogurt, flour, and cinnamon. I might have made them a bit toasty by accident, but they tasted awful. My kids were very disappointed, as they all like bagels.
Next up was some red beans and rice. The kids hated it with one gagging as they ate it. No, it wasn’t dramatics. Sadly. However, my husband liked it, and after adding some diced ham and onion power, he swore it tasted just like Hopping John. A meal he loves.
Lastly, I tried making homemade granola bars. They contained oatmeal, honey, peanut butter, chocolate, chia seeds, and flaxseeds. I tossed them in the refrigerator overnight and out came granola bars. They were super yummy! My kids, however, hated it. My husband took one look at it and declared it too healthy. So… All the granola bars for me; Maw haha! Ok, maybe I am not that mean, but it’s nice to have a safe and cheap option for me because most granola bars have stuff I am allergic to. I have to buy the expensive stuff if I want something that is safe for me.
That’s been the fun going on here.
Rural people have a deep love of homecooked meals, and so do I!
