About Riya Chakraborty
Hi, I'm Riya. I've been writing since I was 7, when I used to scribble in a notebook and a diary at school about everything I soaked up from the world around me, and for years none of it left those pages.
Life has since taken me back and forth between India and France, and through those years that knock you flat and make you rebuild yourself from scratch, those years are in everything I write now, even when I'm not writing about them directly.
Eventually I decided it was time to stop keeping it all to myself, so I started publishing on Medium, and my essays have appeared in several publications there. I write about the most human things, drawing on psychology and neuroscience as well as my own life, and I try to go deep into the feelings most of us never put into words.
I've also published 3 books, including a poetry collection and my memoir, 100 to 0 to 100, which is where I tell the fuller story of those years.
I've been through enough to know how isolating the hard parts of life can be, and I don't want anyone else to feel that alone.
Sharing what I write has made me braver, and it keeps me wanting to do more good work, so that whoever reads me feels understood and finds their way through things a little more easily. I'm grateful.
If something I've written has ever helped you, a coffee would mean a lot to me and I want part of it to go towards doing some good for other people as well.
Thank you for reading, and for being here.
With love, Riya
