This one's been a long time coming, but the V5 beta-1 Free PDFs have finally landed.

These PDFs contain the same game text as the Beta-1 Compendium available from Lulu, split into the three classic booklets and laid out for reading on screen.
What's in the PDFs?
These are the so-called "Lean" build of V5, which contains a minimal, text-only version. A few things worth knowing:
- Layout for the screen: The type block (the main text) is centred on each page with even margins, rather than positioned for a physical book spine/gutter.
- Consistent Page Numbers: The main content of each booklet starts from the page number it has in the Compendium format (e.g., Book II starts at page 42) rather than at page 1. This means page 47 is page 47 in every V5 variant from here on, PDF or hardback. (noting that the Lulu POD Beta-1 compedium has an "off by 1" error, but that will be fixed by the full release).
- Empty boxes for illustration: Where an illustration appears in the illustrated editions, the Lean PDFs leave a blank space. This is what keeps the page numbers lined up across variants.
- No covers: While the hardcopy booklets will each have their own covers, the free PDFs open directly onto the title page. That is partly because I'm still working on the cover art, and partly because these are still a free beta. I'm okay with pushing these out sooner without the cover art.
- Book III (Monsters & Treasure) is placeholder: Monsters & Treasures is contains mostly V4's text, carried over so we have a complete and playable set. It's entirely compatible with V5 and works as is, but there will be some revisions before V5 goes final. (There's a note to this effect inside the booklet too.)
