Flow state describes a feeling where, under the right conditions, you become fully immersed in whatever you are doing. Flow is the melting together of action and consciousness; the state of finding a balance between a skill and how challenging that task is.

I believe we’ve all felt flow state at some point in our lives. But for me personally, I only recognise it once i’ve left it. That’s how immersive it can be at times. I ask myself, where did the last few five hours go? The saying that ‘time flies when your having fun’ could maybe be replaced with ‘time flies when your in a state of flow’ - which happens to be fun and enjoyable. I don’t think there’s any science behind this, but I believe animals, especially wildlife in their natural habitats, are in a constant state of flow. Where there is no thinking, just action (or inaction) from a pure place of instinct. It’s what they are born to do. It relates to a lot of what I’ve mentioned before about ‘being yourself’. They just… are.

I go through phases where flow state is hard to come by. When the easiest of tasks are met with all kinds of resistance. Other times, flow state is achieved effortlessly without even realising it. That’s the phase I’m fortunately in at the moment and it’s a goal now to hang on to that for longer periods of time. It was felt in Botswana this month, it’s felt now as I edit this video and even as I type this newsletter.

My question to you (and myself) is: What, when, how and who are you with when flow state is achieved? I’m beginning to think that it can be a sign that your’e on your highest path.

Whats news?

I was kindly invited to join the same crew from our recent Mana Pools trip to explore Chobe National Park in Botswana. Francois and Steph, Tabby and Vil (aka The Safari Expert) and a new addition to the group, my wonderful girlfriend, Caleigh.

This journey involved really getting out of my comfort zone. Massive storms, a hyena sniffing my head, crossing deep water, relentless flies and mosquitoes and just stepping into the unknown. But the toughest roads lead to the most beautiful and memorable moments. Also, the only thing you can find in the unknown is more of yourself. That proved true on this incredible journey. Video coming soon…

Manyeleti

I’ve heard so many good things about Manyeleti Game Reserve recently. I’m taking it as a sign that I need to visit as soon as possible. Hopefully in a few weeks time. This will be a solo trip for a Safari Journals episode - it’s been a while!

One Million Views

The channel has just reached 1 000 000 views. I don’t even know what to think about that?! Thank you for all the support, kind messages and comments, and for sharing these videos with your friends and family. It means the world to me.

Cheers
Byron
