On birthday wishes

Mar 28, 2022

Kat here 👋🏻 Today is my 27th birthday, my second birthday without Michael.

I’m much less likely to wish someone a happy birthday these days—not everyone wants their birthday to be happy. Instead, I’ve tried to reframe the birthday wishes I send to others. I try to acknowledge their birthday, honor their grief, and celebrate their existence.

Today I do this for myself.

I acknowledge it is my birthday. Today marks 27 rotations around the sun.

I honor my grief and make space for any emotions I may feel today, including sadness, loneliness, and heartbreak, but also happiness, joy, and celebration.

I celebrate my existence, because existing these days is quite an accomplishment.

If you’re looking for a way to acknowledge my birthday, honor my grief, and/or celebrate my existence, please consider buying me a coffee to support Widows Lost & Found. Money sent through BMAC goes toward care packages for widows, content creation tools for support and grief education, and other resources for the group.
