A Little Water, Then a Pause

A Little Water, Then a Pause

Aug 15, 2026

It is rare to find a jar of water on this desk that isn’t cloudy with Payne’s Grey or Burnt Umber.

This one serves a different purpose: just a few drops beside the dram, followed by a quiet minute of waiting. There is something about that small pause that feels closely connected to painting. Both ask for patience. Both change slowly, and neither improves by being hurried.

This image is from one of those small studio moments where whisky culture and the painting process happen to meet. 🥃🎨

Do you tend to add a little water, or leave the dram as it is?
