iOS 18: What We Wish We Could Have in the Netherlands

Dec 12, 2024

Ah, the joys of living in the EU, where tech dreams sometimes collide with regulations. Apple just dropped iOS 18, packed with cool features… but not for us. Here’s what’s missing (and why we’re a bit salty about it):

  • Apple Intelligence: Your iPhone, but smarter.

Think of Siri finally getting her act together and doing more than setting timers. Too bad we’ll have to wait—this futuristic feature is geo-locked to the US for now. Guess our European accents are too much for Siri?

  • iPhone Mirroring: Leave your iPhone in your bag.

Control your iPhone screen directly from your Mac—texts, notifications, even music. Sounds like a dream, right? EU? Nope. We’re still fumbling with AirDrop like it’s 2013.

  • SharePlay for Screen Sharing: Netflix nights, ruined.

This upgrade was supposed to make screen-sharing smoother than ever. Instead, we’re left sharing our screens the old-fashioned way… by pointing at them.

  • Visual Intelligence: Point, click, and learn!

Take a photo, and voilà, instant info about anything—plants, art, landmarks. But no, this feature isn’t here yet. We’ll stick to guessing if it’s basil or parsley.

  • Smarter Smart Homes: Siri can’t clean up after you.

Imagine asking Siri to start your robot vacuum or track your home energy usage. Sounds efficient? EU Siri says, “Not today, pal.”

Why?

Regulations, folks. Apple’s busy deciphering the EU’s Digital Markets Act. In the meantime, we’ll just stare longingly across the Atlantic while the Americans have all the fun.
Here’s hoping these features arrive before iOS 19! Until then, let’s keep dreaming (and complaining).
