PREMIUM DEATH EXPERIENCE
A satirical short film about a village where death becomes a commodity.
Premium Death Experience is a darkly comic short film currently in production as a bachelor's thesis at the Baltic Film, Media and Arts School (BFM) in Tallinn. The film is directed by Finnish filmmaker Roosa Kinnunen and made by an international team of emerging filmmakers.
The story takes place in a small village where death becomes a competition.
A salesman arrives and starts selling graveyard plots through an auction. What begins as a strange but harmless event quickly escalates: owning a grave becomes a symbol of status. As the best plots run out, panic spreads. The villagers start competing and digging their own graves - while the salesman profits from their desperation. He sees a new business opportunity in every situation.
WHY THIS FILM?
Although the film deals with death, Premium Death Experience is not about dying - it is about how we live under a system that is built on an illusion of choice.
Through absurdist satire, the film explores:
consumer culture and materialism
status anxiety and social comparison
The film exaggerates reality just enough to reveal something deeply familiar.
The tone is dry and unsettling. Humor comes from stillness.
ARTISTIC VISION
Visually, the world is cold and absurd: wide static shots, muted colors, industrial ruins, and carefully composed frames, taking inspiration from the Czech New Wave.
The graveyard - set in an abandoned mining area near Tallinn - becomes the emotional center of the film.
