GP300 - Leak (partially) plugged

Today Valeton released an update to the Valeton Suite software (v2.1.0) and naturally enough, I unpacked it to see what had changed.

Obviously someone at Valeton had noticed the buzz created by the leaked graphics in the previous version (v2.0.3), because this time around all the GP300 images have been removed.

However, this act inadvertently confirmed some suspicions from the previous leak.

By doing a before and after comparison it's easy to get a list of what images have been removed from the software (at least for now!)

As well as the GP300 images, images relating to selecting the signal chain topology have also been removed. Which would seem to confirm that these images are GP300 specific and that the GP300 has been developed to offer a choice of signal chain topology (this is consistent with having a true stereo FX loop like the Ampero II).

Has the GP300 been cancelled?

Now one obvious possible reason for removing those images is that the GP300 has been cancelled and will never see the light of day. However, there's good reason to doubt this, because the actually ValetonSuite application binary still has all the strings referencing GP300, including GP300-specific settings screens, in there. They haven't been removed.

It also makes little sense to cancel the GP300 since it would leave the GP200 (the nominal flagship) with worse NAM A2 support than the GP180 and GP150. The need for a successor product to the GP200 that combines its I/O with the newer products' samplerate and battery/bluetooth support has now become greater.

Nevertheless it does look like Valeton are not going to make our lives as easy going forward, and we'll have to look for any ongoing clues within the application binary rather than graphical assets.
