The Stroll

The girl

It was a clear, dark night as we walked inside. The lights were flickering like stars. "It's the ghost." she whispered.

I didn't even know her name, the girl I took home. She had told me, but I had forgotten, and I was too embarrassed to ask her again.

I met her during a stroll. She was shivering and asked me my name, but she was so breathtakingly gorgeous that I couldn't remember it. She told me hers and that her boyfriend had left her.

After this, she mumbled some words I didn't quite get. Her teeth were chattering, her body shook, so I just took her in.

Warning Signs

She sure was weird, talking about ghosts and all. I poured her some tea, as she started talking: "My boyfriend killed me, and then he took his own life. We were going to be together forever in the afterlife."

Her story made my skin crawl. Clearly, she was mad, and I instantly regretted my decision to take her in. I told her that I had to go to the bathroom.

When I entered another room, I tried to grab the phone from my pocket to call the police, but my hand slipped through my pants, as if it, and even my legs, weren't there.

I felt like being watched. As I turned around, she was right behind me: "You're dead too, and you're coming with me."

The truth is out there

I fell to the ground, on my back. I screamed in panic: "Who are you?" She smiled and said: "You can't see me without your eyes, and I didn't recognize you without your head. Don't you remember, dearest, we are both dead."

Her word choice, the way she rhymed, it seemed all too familiar, but I wasn't hearing her. I laughed, a nervous laugh, as I shrugged my shoulders: "What is this, the Sixth Sense?"

A flash of our time together went through my soul. I had visions of what I'd done. I blew her away and then I took my own life. The head trauma must have messed up my memory.

I spoke to her: "Why?" She pulled the corners of her mouth up with her fingers and said: "We were never going to get away with what we had done; they would have separated us for years."

The clarification

Another flash went through me, about a man beating his wife and me hiding in the closet. I took initiative, but boy, did she finish the job. Years of anger and frustration were laid upon him. He didn't even look like a human being anymore. We fled to the forest, and, near an abandoned house, we promised that we were going to be together no matter what.

As I stood there looking around, my home turned into this old abandoned house with no windows. I gazed in an old mirror. I saw a headless body with my clothes on staring back at me.

She took my hand as we walked through the wall, through the fence, through the trees. There was no bright tunnel. There was only darkness. There wasn't even a glim of light as we slipped away into the night.

There was no happy ending, but at least we both burn together. I finally have her, until the ending of time which is never.
