I had a small but powerful conversation with my daughter Petra. She was preparing for school, and I asked what subjects she had tomorrow. Among them was physics.
“Are you ready?” I asked.
“Yes,” she said. “We learned about atomic structure.”
So I asked her to explain it. She answered well, but at one point, she hesitated and said: “I think…”
I stopped her right there.
“Do you think? Or do you know? Because if you think, it’s an opinion. But if you know, it’s truth — and truth makes you confident.”
She paused, thought carefully, and then corrected herself: “I know. It’s like this…” — and she gave me the right answer.
That’s when I told her: opinions can be debated, but facts stand firm.
She understood. When I asked her which is more valuable — opinion or fact — she said: “Facts, because they are based on truth.”
And she was right.
Why This Matters
If people value opinion more than truth, they will always fall into conflict.
Opinions clash. Opinions compete. Opinions make noise.
But when people build their lives on facts — on what is true and solid — there is less conflict, more clarity, and more trust.
Still, there’s a danger: saying “I know” when you don’t.
The words “I know” are very strong. They must never be spoken lightly. They must not come from ego, arrogance, or self-deception.
If you say “I know” honestly, your words will stand like a rock.
If you say “I know” without truth, they will crumble like sand.
Confidence is not pretending. Confidence is standing on what is real.
A Father’s Code
Here is the lesson I gave Petra, written now for you:
Opinion is what people think. Fact is what is true.
Do not lie to yourself. Do not say “I know” unless you truly know.
Truth gives confidence. Arrogance gives collapse.
Respect opinions, but do not be ruled by them.
Build your life on truth, not on noise.

This is how small everyday conversations can become weapons of clarity for our children — and for ourselves. Because the world is full of noise, and it takes courage to stand for truth.
