It was good to be back in the van again, even if only for a couple of nights.
With Anzac Day landing on a Saturday, work wrapped up around lunchtime Friday, and I pointed the HiAce towards Adelaide River. Rolled into the caravan park, set up, and got straight into it.
Will and I were catching up with a few mates, and there’s probably no better place to spend Anzac Day eve than the 303 Bar, where a few beers turned into more than a few, as they tend to do.
Somehow, we all still made it to the dawn service. The crowd was bigger than I expected, hushed, reflective, and united in the early morning dark. Afterwards, we wandered back to the pub for a Gunfire Breakfast, eggs, bacon, and a dash of rum in the coffee, before crashing back at the van for a much-needed nap.
The rest of the day was easy. Live bands, a bit of two-up, a couple of cold tinnies, and that perfect dry-season Darwin weather doing its thing.
A simple weekend with good people is hard to beat.
