Stranded in Valencia

Oct 19, 2026

Sometimes, friendship is knowing who you can call when you can’t get home. 🧡

Yesterday afternoon, my daughter and I found ourselves stuck in Valencia. We wanted to take the train home to Xàtiva, but all trains had been cancelled—hours before the official announcement.

Suddenly, an ordinary journey home became uncertainty. What do we do now? How do we get back?

Being stranded feels different when you have your child beside you. You’re trying to work things out, stay calm and reassure them, while wishing you had a clear answer yourself.

And then friends are there for you. No questions asked. No need for a long explanation.

There’s something deeply comforting about being able to say, “We’re stuck,” and knowing you don’t have to figure everything out alone.

And many others offered to help, too. Every offer mattered. Just knowing people were willing to be there for us made an uncertain situation feel less overwhelming.

Valencia isn’t where we live. But yesterday, our friends and the people around us made us feel welcome and cared for.

That’s unity in community. People showing up for each other when an ordinary day takes an unexpected turn.

To the friends who helped us, and everyone who offered: thank you. For a mum trying to get her daughter home, your kindness meant so much. 🧡

A friend in need is a friend indeed.
