When I first started learning Spanish, I thought grammar would come naturally. Everyone says, "Just immerse yourself in it; you’ll pick it up."
I mean, how hard could it be, right?
Turns out pretty fricking hard! I remember once, I was with some new Spanish friends. It was a particularly warm night, so I confidently told the group, "Soy caliente", thinking I was saying, "I feel hot."
Well, not quite!
After everyone stopped laughing and wiped the tears from their eyes, they explained I had proudly (and quite loudly) said, "I'm sexy!"
It can also mean something very different in other Spanish-speaking countries.
Lesson learned: grammar is SUPER important!
Unfortunately, that wasn’t my only mistake. Over time, I realized grammar isn’t just about rules—it’s what allows you to have real, confident conversations, the kind that lets you be yourself.
Sure, you might be able to get by with broken conversations and people will mostly understand what you're saying. But if you want to truly excel in a language, grammar helps you be taken seriously and shows that you genuinely understand what you're trying to say.

Repeating the same words and phrases all the time
Avoiding speaking and writing in English
Thinking in your native language and translating
Avoiding English books and films
Feeling stuck or confused by grammar
Not seeing much progress
Sound familiar? The good news is that recognizing these challenges is the first step to overcoming them.
