Why the mic stayed off

I skipped a podcast episode last week. I run this whole operation myself — I read your messages, I set my own appointments, I cut every episode by hand — and usually that rhythm holds. Last week, it didn’t. Not because I ran out of time, but because I gave my full attention to something else that couldn’t wait.

The question I’m actually sitting with

I’m hunting for a new flat right now, and I’ve landed on one genuinely strange sticking point: whether it has a balcony. My cats love the outdoors. The flat I want doesn’t have one. I haven’t solved it yet, but I’ll tell you how it lands.

What pulled my focus

The real reason, though, is bigger: I launched my poetry book — in Arabic — at the Abu Dhabi Book Fair, and I spent Sunday there in person.

The venue impressed me. Massive, well laid-out, clearly built with care. But I’ll say it plainly: it didn’t carry the same charge as the Sharjah International Book Fair. Sharjah pulls in readers, not just visitors — you can feel it. I spent my time doing what I always do at these events: watching people. What they pick up. How long they linger at a table. How many bags they’re carrying on their way out.

I clock these details because they fascinate me, not because anyone asked me to. And that’s the real thread through this whole update: the gap between doing something because a plan calls for it, and doing something because you literally can’t look away from it.

I felt that same pull meeting the Emirati Writers’ Association in person, after months of reaching out to no response. No inbox, no algorithm — just two people talking in a room. I’m applying for membership now, and it landed harder than I expected.

Why I’m sharing all of this with you

None of this sits outside the podcast — it’s the reason the podcast exists. I built this show to stay close to the people I make it for, not to manage you from a distance. That’s why the recent rise in downloads means more to me than a number on a dashboard. Some of you stick to audio. Others found me through video, on Spotify or YouTube. Whichever way you arrived, what you tell me shapes what I build next — literally, not as a nice line I repeat.

What’s next

I’m recording a handful of new meditations — short, built for real effect, shaped by what you’ve told me actually works. Down the road, I want to fold everything into a full audio course, because some of you want video, and others want something you can run to, or lift to, or play on a commute. My job is to match the format to how you actually live.
