1) Russians have damaged over 3,400 educational institutions in Ukraine. The Prosecutor General's Office reports that educational institutions in Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Kharkiv Oblasts have suffered the most. The invaders not only shelled schools and nurseries but also used them as military bases, a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
2) This week has been marked by bloody Russian terror attacks on Ukraine. Russian troops attacked the territory of an educational institution in Poltava Oblast early on September 3, destroying the Military Institute of Communications building. Emergency rescue operations at the scene of the attack have been completed. According to the State Emergency Service, 55 people have been killed and 328 injured. Seven people, including three children, were killed by a Russian missile attack in Lviv on September 4. Residential buildings and seven architectural monuments, including the 130-year-old Centre for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, have sustained significant damage.
3) 3/4 of Russian missiles target civilians rather than military targets. Most enemy targets hit residential buildings, hospitals, educational institutions, and power plants. This constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
4) Germany has ordered 17 IRIS-T air defence systems for Ukraine, with some set to be delivered this year. The announcement was made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. According to Deutsche Welle, 8 of the 17 systems are medium-range IRIS-T SLM variants, while the remaining nine are IRIS-T SLS, which have a smaller area of effect. According to the Chancellor, the Ukrainian military currently has seven such systems, which have assisted in shooting down over 250 Russian air targets.
5) In August, the Ministry of Defense reported that 17,000 hectares of mine-contaminated land in liberated areas had been cleared of explosives. During mine clearance, 8,837 explosive objects were detected and neutralized. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, their total number has been 393,330.
6) The head of the Office of the President briefs the US delegation on the urgent needs of the Ukrainian army. During the sanctions discussion, Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, emphasized the importance of strengthening export controls to prevent Russia from obtaining critical Western-made technology (including through third countries) and imposing sanctions on Russian metallurgical companies. Acting Air Force Commander Anatoliy Kryvonozhko briefed the United States on Russian strike tactics, as well as Ukraine's need for additional air defence and anti-aircraft missile systems, missiles, and electronic reconnaissance equipment.
7) In response to Russian missile strikes, the EU steps up military support for Ukraine, including air defence systems and ammunition. "These deliveries strengthen Ukrainian self-defence, save innocent lives, and reduce the level of the destruction in Ukraine," a spokesperson for the EU stated.
