UKGRIDWATCH is a personal, hobby-driven, non-commercial project created out of curiosity for how the UK’s electricity system operates day to day. It provides a clear, fast-loading dashboard designed to make real-time grid behaviour easier for anyone to explore and understand.

The platform collects and processes publicly available energy data, visualising it to reveal short-term trends in national demand, generation mix, renewable contribution, carbon intensity, system balancing, and interconnector flows. The goal is to turn complex datasets into something approachable, readable and meaningful without needing specialist knowledge.

UKGRIDWATCH is built and maintained in spare time, with no sponsorship, commercial backing, ads or paywalls. It exists simply to share information, encourage curiosity and support students, researchers, journalists, energy enthusiasts and members of the public interested in where electricity comes from and how the grid changes throughout the day.

The project values transparency, simplicity and accessibility. It prioritises fast loading, minimal tracking, clear visual design and openly documented assumptions or limitations. Whenever possible, links to original data sources are provided so users can verify or explore further.

As a hobby project, UKGRIDWATCH evolves gradually. Planned improvements include richer historical archives, additional data feeds, deeper contextual explanations, methodology notes, regional insights, glossary terms and other educational features.
