MooTube 2.5: Release Notes

📢 Added

• Support for upcoming Moodle 5.3: Addressed deprecated methods/classes, dark mode support, new drawer UI, and behaviors, while making sure the MooTube experience is consistent across Moodle branches.

• Subcourse section type: A brand new section type (requires mod_subcourse and the paid local_mtubeprogram). With these plugins and the new section type, you can turn a MooTube course into a multiple-course training program with accessible reports right from the main program course. Students can be enrolled automatically (optional) in the subcourses. Teachers see progress, grade, completion, competencies, and learning outcomes without having to go to the subcourses. Reports only show participants from the program rather than everyone in the subcourse.

  

• Course completion tab in the course report. Shows each course completion criterion with how many learners have met it, whether all or any criteria are required, and an overall "Course completed" count.

  

• Mark-done on the activity modal. Activities with manual completion display the mark-done button in the modal header, ensuring consistency across Moodle branches. The header and the activity card stay in sync.

  

• Hide a section's header or description. Two new section options: Hide header from students (managers still see it) and Hide description on the section page.

  

• Other plugins can extend MooTube. New section types, course report/user report/activity overview tabs and course-tool buttons can be supplied by another plugin and appear in the section type list, report settings and course tools automatically. EXTENDING.md describes how.

• Two new section labels: Step and stage.

📢 Changed

• Participants report performance. Progress percentages are calculated for all listed participants at once, so the progress-band filter and the progress column no longer do one lookup per learner.

• Course completion criterion layout. Now the course completion criteria are shown in groups (e.g. activity completion, self completion, other course completion, etc). Additionally, the percentage shown also takes into account the AND and ANY conditions rather than counting each row.

• Replace deprecated methods in Moodle 5.2.

• UI Improvements on Map and HTMLframe section types

📢 Fixed

• Debug notice on section web services. Section rendering calls raised "This page did not call $PAGE->set_url()" under developer debugging.

• Restoring a course whose MooTube options had never been saved warned about a missing cmprop key.

• Course report on sites without mod_attendance raised an invalid-string notice from the attendance tab label.

• Duplicating or pasting a section copied its options before its activities, so section types that depend on an activity in the section (Subcourse) lost their settings.

• Restoring a backup that uses a section type this site has no plugin for now falls back to a regular section, with a note in the restore log, instead of failing; such a section renders as a regular section with a notice for managers.
