Forget Everything and Follow me: Become Self Employed

Nov 17, 2024

Several years ago, I had a series of Dreams where I was standing before Jesus in Heaven, and He told me to forget everything and follow Him. As scary as following Him can be at times, I am certain he has me in the palm of His hand. If he is on the water, I need to be out of the boat, not relying on earthly security, but radical faith in Him. This post is a continuation of my series of Dreams titled "Forget Everything and Follow Me'', which will be posted soon.

Wow.... God Doesn't waste anything, and he truly works everything out for my Good! Often, we do not understand the path that we are on. Have you ever asked God why things don't seem to be working out? Do you ever feel like you're on a path leading nowhere? Let me encourage you. He knew you'd be exactly where you are at this very moment in time. I don't know about you, but my steps are ordered by the Lord. For the past couple of years, I felt out of place. But I now know I was placed where I was to not only be light but to prepare me for the next stretch of my journey in this life. I was learning to be present in the uncomfortable and walk moment by moment with the Holy Spirit. I'd love to say I handled every obstacle, situation, and conflict righteously. I did not, and I am okay with that. I am fully confident Jesus will make me like Him. I dug in and learned to be a Son of God. My skin thickened, my fear of man diminished, and I began to see myself as Father God sees me.

My time came to an end in the last season when Father said it would. I knew it was up and felt in my spirit that I had to go to work for myself. I was in a unique position to be able to build my business to where it was when I left, and I am grateful for that. However, I have always been dependent on a company to provide for my family. God was saying he had something different for me that would require a new level of faith. I was excited yet anxious about this new venture. I wanted to be self-employed and do ministry while I worked. I've always done it, but it was always within others' parameters. It was now time to do something new. I'm never comfortable when I remain after God moves.

I had to make another seemingly unwise move to become self-employed. I felt like Abraham, going into unfamiliar territory where God would guide me. God showed me what could be, but it required faith to move before the next door would open. My way would be to see what is behind the next door and walk through when I was ready. That's not faith. I knew I would have to forsake any plan A, B, or C for this next step to be a success. I told the Lord he had my full yes and I meant it. There would be no hesitation, no looking back, no unbelief. I have spent most of my life providing for myself and relying on my abilities.

My conversations with God consisted of me telling Him all the reasons why it wasn't a wise move. " I have a family that's relying on me." "I don't want to dig into retirement if things don't work out." I'm working backward." He didn't much care for the excuses. He wasn't backing down on the call that He placed upon my life. I knew I'd never answer the call by being fearful and disobedient. I heard a few messages that said "There must be an end before there is a beginning." Surely God was speaking.

I put my two weeks in and was fully separated from my job within 10 days. My excitement about starting my day with prayer, bible study, and seeing my son off to school, quickly turned to anxiety about making it happen for my family. I didn't know what to do without a fully structured day. I'd have to fully be in charge of that now! Work was there, but not as much as I'd hoped, having a wife who is out of work as well. Father instructed her to work on our businesses. The old me would have rushed her into a job. This time fear wouldn't win. Instead of fearing, I would go to the church and pray. I wouldn't plead and beg. I would remind Father that I'm his son and if I love my son surely he loves me and would take care of me. I knew it would require the miraculous; if He called me, He' got me.

All of our businesses suddenly ramp up in sales and revenue. Gas work, along with other opportunities from investors materialize. I cannot believe what's happening. God's placed people to partner with in my path. Everything I've learned while pipefitting, Gas Co., and the home services industry have all prepared me to run TruFlame Gas Solutions. I'm certain it won't always be smooth sailing. I can't wait to see what's next. I'm enjoying this deeper level of surrender and dependence. Don't be discouraged if you have dreams deferred. It's all coming together. Surrender to God's will, believe, and put your faith in action.
