Story time!
This customer had an iPhone 12 that was restarting every few minutes. Naturally they went to apple who ran a diagnostic and told them it was a board issue and the phone needed to be replaced. The customer didn’t want to loose their data since they weren’t able to do a backup due to the phone restarting so often.
At the very least, the apple “genius” referred them to us for data recovery. Best decision they made!
Customer stopped by and described the issue. We quickly went through the panic logs and found a missing sensor. Then we logged into our apple diagnostics portal and saw the results and Bingo! We came to the conclusion it was the charge port causing the restarts.
The apple diagnostics triggered a faulty barometer (located in the charge port). Paired with the error code it took less than 3 mins to figure out the problem. We replaced the charge port, set a timer and called it a fix.
Apple has the same tools we have at disposal. The difference here was the knowledge and experience to figure out the answer.
