Today, let's do 10 DIY phonics teaching hacks for ages 2-5.
Are you ready?
1. Salt letter tracing - Have kids trace letters in salt on a baking sheet to build tactile recognition.
2. Letter puppets - Make puppets using popsicle sticks, googly eyes and glue for interactive sound practice.
3. Pipe cleaner letters - Bend colorful pipe cleaners into letter shapes to reinforce formation.
4. Sensory bins - Fill tubs with beads, pom poms, etc. and have kids find objects starting with the sound.
5. Letter movement - Assign an action like jumping for J while saying the sound.
6. Magnetic fishing - Use makeshift magnetic rods and letter fish to catch matching sounds.
7. Letter rubbings - Place letters under paper and rub crayons over to trace the shape.
8. Letter puzzles - Glue letters onto cardboard and cut into piece puzzles to reassemble.
9. Sound match eggs - Put small objects or pictures in plastic eggs corresponding to the beginning sound.
10. Music and motion - Sing songs and chant rhymes while incorporating movement.
With a little creativity, you can easily make engaging Do-It-Yourself (DIY) phonics activities using household materials!
