" Emotions in Metal" is an art rock film that investigates human-vehicle relationships. It's divided it into nine vignettes that combine performance video and home recorded music with archival footage and computer-generated design. Whether performing instructional poetry in the garage, documenting the interiors of strangers' cars, or celebrating art world connections to the road, the work balances playful humor with a critical eye on where society is currently parked.
The car print images were a collaboration with my high school students. In class, we would spend a day drawing teacher's cars in the faculty parking lot. These drawings became prints we used to create a massive traffic jam on a paper scroll stretching down the school hallway. I managed to hold on to some of my students' cars. Later, when I discovered "The Illustrated Book of Yoga," I found their juxtaposition against the poses perfectly conveyed my film's tension between mind-body and machine.
