In late 2023 I founded Invisible Condition (IC), a podcast and digital publication dedicated to driving social change and ending the stigma for people living with non-apparent illnesses and health conditions. I started IC as a result of my personal challenges dealing with Crohn’s Disease at home and in the workplace, and from talking with others who struggle with their own invisible conditions, whether it’s cancer, OCD, hemophilia, or ADHD.
Over the last few months I’ve drawn on my own time and money to:
- Create the logo and overall brand;
- Register, build, and maintain a full website;
- Develop website content and blog posts;
- Get active on social media, focusing on LinkedIn and Instagram;
- Record and produce more than a dozen podcasts featuring truly amazing individuals; and
- Begin the process of registering IC as a non-profit in British Columbia.
- Bring on a law firm that will support IC with charity status. This legal fee will range from $5,000 to $10,000.
Unlike many startup founders, my intention isn't to grow IC as part of a multi-million-dollar exit strategy.
I’ve decided to build something that I can be a part of for many years to come, and that can focus on our vision without sacrificing our values and principles for a quick buck. This means we won’t sell our content to profit from the knowledge you and others with invisible conditions might seek.
However, this approach also means I need financial support - hopefully your support! - to operate and grow.
Asking for donations is an extremely uncomfortable thing for me to do, but I believe so strongly in IC and our vision that I’m happy to do it. I’ve set up a donations page using “Buy Me a Coffee”, and have been pleasantly surprised and immensely thankful to see some donations already come in.
Donating a few bucks is a tangible way for you to show your support.
Every dollar you contribute counts. Whether it’s $5, $50, or $500, every cent will go toward our upcoming legal fees for charity status, digital publication and podcast (and yes, maybe an actual coffee or two to help keep me fueled and working).
Please donate today.
Play a part in helping erase the stigma attached to invisible conditions, and in creating workplaces, schools, and communities where everyone can truly feel “normal”.
With gratitude and a smile,
Tim
