FREEDOM FESTIVAL
The Red Pill Crew descended on the Freedom Festival, an annual conspiracy conference held at Overview Park every March 11 since the pandemic.
The festival was mostly a gathering of antivaxxers, mask-refuseniks, and assorted conspiracy enthusiasts selling DVDs and books. Many were awaiting a conspiracy rapper who would be making an appearance later. Additionally, there were segments of the broader truther population, including paranormal independent investigators and Bigfoot hunters.
Jeremy, the camo-clad leader of the Red Pill Crew, scanned the gathering for “Feds”.
“How can you tell if someone’s a Fed?” Belinda asked.
“Khakis,” Jeremy replied simply.
Belinda was obsessed with Bigfoot. She grew up on rumors her family had Bigfoot blood and although she traced her ancestry to the Mayflower Pilgrims, she found no definitive link. Her family came to the New World, she reasoned, and in those early days there might have been some ancestral blood exchange with the Sasquatch.
Melvin, a painfully thin, pockmarked, bug-eyed conspiracy TikToker with an unkempt mustache was scanning the latest messages from JFK Jr. on message boards frequented by Q cultists. He looked up and pointed toward a row of 5G towers disguised as trees. “Can you feel the air getting warmer? They activated the mind control towers,” he said.
Jeremy focused on a man standing in the middle of the park delivering a speech. The man held a megaphone and wore khaki pants.
“Nanobots can be sexually transmitted, so always ask about their vaccination status,” the speaker proclaimed authoritatively. “The vaccine toxins can be spread through kissing, holding hands, and of course, having sex, which puts the infants at risk of being born as nanobot-babies.”
Jeremy pointed at the man. “That guy is a Fed. He's spreading conspiracy theories about sexually transmitted nanobots to make us look crazy.”
Melvin frowned. “That doesn't mean you can't catch nanobot AIDS from sleeping with the vaccinated.”
Jeremy pointed at a news van. “Look, he’s performing this crazy rant so the Freedom Fest looks like a crazy cult gathering. This is how the Feds discredit us.”
“Guys!” Belinda blurted. “It's a trap!” She pointed into the sky, where white lines were forming a grid above the park. “Those unmarked military drones are criss-crossing chemtrails over our heads!”
Melvin nearly fainted. “What are they spraying? We are like bugs to them!”
Jeremy shook his head. “It’s probably geo-engineering but just in case, protect yourselves!”
The three of them put on their gas masks.
“RUN!” Jeremy shouted. He, Melvin, and Belinda retreated the way they had come, leaving the Freedom Festival attendees oblivious to the airborne chemical warfare attack unfolding above them.

They piled into Jeremy's camouflage cargo van with its off-grid aesthetics and sped toward the CHUD HQ, a secret bunker he had somehow acquired.
Melvin was TikToking in the back of the van, wagging his finger at the camera and ranting about chemtrails. “What chemicals are they injecting into the stratosphere?” he asked his audience, his eyes bulging.
Belinda screamed. “Flock camera!” She pointed at a surveillance camera mounted near an intersection.
“They're facially scanning for signs of noncompliance!” Jeremy said, swerving towards the totalitarian device. He rammed the van the Flock pole, knocking the camera lens-first into the concrete.
“Things just got serious,” Belinda said breathlessly. Melvin appeared shell-shocked and was mindlessly scratching his arms.
“Let's get to headquarters!” Jeremy shouted.
Belinda hyperventilated in the back of the van beside Melvin who was quietly doom-scrolling, his eyes reflecting the screen as he mind-downloaded hundreds of provocative headlines and rage bait.
Jeremy steered the van back onto the road and glanced at the sky.“Those lines. Those white lines. What are they?”
“Nobody knows,” Melvin responded. “It's a big mystery.”
They arrived behind an old strip mall. They frequently checked for tails, but apparently got there without being tracked.
“Is this where the CHUD HQ is?” Belinda asked, her gas mask still covering her face. How do we know we haven’t been tracked by drone?
“Jeremy,” Melvin said, “that flock camera really caught you on video demonstrating noncompliance. Aren’t you worried they will track you down?”
Jeremy glowered at him. “Just follow me. That khaki-wearing fed was probably there for us. Everyone else was too compliant and unaware to recognize that we'd been honeypotted and herded into a chemtrail kill box.” He led them toward a basement entrance beneath a strip-mall church “It's been vacant since 2020,” he explained. “The preacher who had once occupied the church had been an antivaxxer.” He opened the lock which required a code and a key. “My family came to this church,” Jeremy said. “The pastor resisted the lockdowns. They said he died of a virus. At least, that's what the mainstream media claims. But I know better.”
He finished opening the door. It was dark aside from a few straggling beams of sunlight from the basement windows.
“How do you believe they killed him?” Belinda asked.
Jeremy looked up at them before stepping into the basement bunker. “They put nanobots in his cigarettes. They had to make an example of him.”
Melvin was recording a paranoid rant on TikTok. “The police will track us down from the flock camera! They'll send us to jail, then FEMA Camp, or they’ll designate us 5150 and put us in padded cells. They're going to kill us because we know too much!”
CHUD HQ
Rows of freeze-dried food, bottled water, hand-crank radios, whiteboards, and flashlights lined the walls.
Jeremy locked the door behind them.
“The planes seem to have lost us,” Belinda said. She removed her gas mask. Jeremy removed his, and Melvin followed suit.
They hurriedly replaced their masks with tin-foil-lined beanies.
“In case the 5G gets through,” Jeremy explained. “We must wear these. And don't let them fool you about 5G. It could easily be 33G by now. Why would they tell us the full extent of their mind-control weapons?”
Melvin nodded. “Good point.” He patted his pockets, then began to panic.
“My battery is dying! Do you have a charger?”
Jeremy pointed toward a shelf containing AA batteries, D batteries, and C batteries There were no USB chargers.
“What kind of outdated Y2K bunker is this?” Melvin demanded.
“Maybe we should let our phones die,” Belinda suggested. “That might block the drones tracking us.”
Melvin began experiencing doomscrolling withdrawals. His all-pervading sense of dread needed a target. His cognitive bias was itching for bad news and he had nothing to ruminate over. His body started shaking. “I need something to fear guys. This is messing with my mind.”
They sat in the near-dark with their tin-foil-lined beanies, listening to passing cars, wondering which one would be the secret police.
Melvin began picking at the skin on his face.
“Dude, stop,” Jeremy said. “It's gross. I’ll make you put your mask back on if you don’t quit that”
“It's nanobots,” Melvin whispered. “I can feel them beneath my skin.”
Belinda looked at him with concern. “Hmm. Wasn't your girlfriend vaccinated?”
Melvin stopped scratching for a moment. He looked alarmed. “Yes.”
“Bro, she would have been shedding nanobot spikes,” Jeremy declared. “She got her black goo into you.”
Outside the basement windows, the setting sun lost its fight against the darkness.
They began eating freeze-dried food and military MREs. Belinda examined the expiration dates on the packages with one of the old flashlights. “Some of this food expired before the year 2000.”
“Yeah, the preacher turned this place into a survival bunker,” Jeremy replied. “If you want to complain about the quality of the food, you're welcome to walk out into the open air with the chemtrails and go to Mister Burger's. We’ll see how long you survive out there.”

NIGHT
Time stretched. The three conspiracy-mongers sat in the darkness, occasionally checking their dead phones.
It was the middle of the night when Belinda finally spoke. “That fed at Freedom Fest must know who I am.”
Melvin sat upright. His face was scratched and raw. “The nanobots were probably dropped by the chemtrails so the feds could track all the Freedom Festival attendees.”
Belinda turned toward Jeremy. “How did you know who he was? How did you know the Fed would be in Kakhi pants?”
Jeremy frowned. “What are you accusing me of?”
“Nothing,” Belinda said, surprised she was being accused of making an accusation. “You were very quick to identify him as a fed. That's questionable. I’m just asking questions.”
Melvin looked at Belinda more closely. “Your eyes are, and I’m just now noticing this, are manly eyes. Why are they so wide-set? And those hands seem kind of big.”
Belinda stared back at him. “Melvin, where's your Adam's apple?” Melvin rubbed his throat and indeed failed to detect a notable lump.
Jeremy stared accusingly at them both.“Belinda, your hands are large, let’s just admit that. And Melvin, you don't really seem to have a jawline and your eyes are small and beady. Are you sure you don't have a uterus?”
“Are you guys actually transvestigating me?” Melvin demanded. The scratches on his arms and face seemed deeper than before. “I’m a man. You’re not getting a closer look.”
“I've got nothing to hide,” Belinda said. “These are real. Not that either of you would know what a real woman looks like.”
Melvin looked at Jeremy .“Now that I think about it, those are childbearing hips, Jeremy. It seems like you’re deflecting”
Jeremy was a powerlifter and his musculature seemed proportionate, but as Belinda looked down at her own hips, then at Jeremy’s, she thought perhaps he could be hiding something. “I agree, At least more so than mine. I’m kind of jealous, actually.”
“For the record,” Melvin stated, “I am not a woman, although I do have beady eyes. I admit this.”
“Jeremy,” Belinda said,“I hope those hips are lying, because otherwise you are lying. I would hate to think you're some kind of Illuminati gender invert.”
“Okay,” Jeremy said. “We need to settle this. You could both be spies. I might have just let two Illuminati inverts into my secret headquarters.” He reached for a flashlight. “We need to do some transvestigation before any of us leave here.”
Melvin was muttering in a corner: “No phone chargers, expired survival food, and now they want to verify my biological sex? This is like 1984.”
Jeremy shined a flashlight into Melvin's face. “Do you want out, Melvin? Show us your clavicles.”
“Yeah,” Melvin said quietly. “I want out.” His face was dripping with an oily, blackish goo.
“Stand back!” Belinda screeched, “he’s infected!”
Melvin scratched at his face. Instead of blood, each opened scab revealed a fresh stream of black goo. It oozed down his cheeks, wormlike, then went sideways and up, crawling over his head.
Belinda stumbled backward. Melvin lurched toward her and vomited a stream of black goo directly into her open, screaming mouth.
Belinda fell back, gagging and choking, her hands wrapped around her throat.

Jeremy kicked the door. “I think I locked us in!” He grabbed a flashlight and inspected the lock mechanism. He was still trying to understand how he had managed to trap them when the room suddenly went eerily quiet.
Slowly, he turned around. Belinda and Melvin had crept up behind him. They stood inches away.
Belinda's throat gurgled. “We need you to join us,” she rasped.
Melvin repeated, “Join us.”
Jeremy backed away. Unable to make sense of what was happening, he ran toward the basement window and smashed it with the flashlight. He began climbing out. He looked back and instantly wished he had not. Twin streams of black goo erupted from the mouths of Melvin and Belinda, twisting through the air like liquid snakes. They wrapped around his ankles as he tried to pull himself through the window.
He felt himself being dragged backward. The black goo was seeping into his skin.
He fell to the floor with a thud, staring up at his two friends, now infused with the oily substance. Black liquid dripped from their mouths and pooled beneath their feet.
Jeremy tried to scream but instead vomited a cloud of nanobots.
A voice spoke inside his head. Then inside all three of their heads. The black goo had hijacked their brains and was issuing commands. They turned toward the 5G tower visible through the broken window.
The voice spoke again. “Return to your homes. Return to your families. Share the gift and unite the world!” A puddle of black goo slithered toward the front door. It rose up the frame, slipped into the lock, and turned the mechanism. The door opened.
The morning sun was just beginning to appear on the horizon. The three of them robotically ascended the stairs and reached street level. Then they began running in separate directions. They clawed at their skin as they ran. Their faces, arms, and clothing oozed with the mysterious black substance that had probably come from the chemtrails. By sunrise, they had scattered across the city, visiting family and spreading the parasite to other hosts.

The End
