The Coffee Bean, the Mushroom, and the Feather

Dear friends,

Yesterday afternoon, as I was walking past the flower shop, I spotted three magnificent mushrooms sitting proudly on their shelf behind the window. If I’d known, I would have brought my Opinel knife! Isn’t fall the season for mushroom omelets? The kind that grow in the forest, of course.

To your skillets!

In the morning, the aroma of roasted coffee wafted through the raindrops, warming the souls of passersby from near and far. The richness of Maragogype—the most prestigious coffee of all—charmed me once again, as it always does.

As night fell, the urge to write—powerful and delicate at the same time—like the famous elephant bean, the nickname given to Maragogype because of the exceptional size of its beans, whose smoothness in the cup is unmatched.

And then these words, laid out here on this page, like that seagull feather that flew through my window one day last August to settle on the wood, a few days before my fortieth spring.

What if it were this—the remedy for time slipping through our fingers?

Writing.
