A Feather Drifted In

A Feather Drifted In

Dear friends,

I came out of the bathroom, and that's when I spotted it. Right next to the stovetop, underneath the half-open VELUX window. Gently placed there by some miracle or another: a white feather. It must surely belong to one of my seagull neighbors. You might find this completely ridiculous, but the moment I reached out to pick it up and examine it in the palm of my hand, it moved me to the very core.

I caught myself thinking: Did that bird send me a message? Why this gift? What were the odds that this feather, carried by the wind, would have blown through the window and into my home? How should I interpret this event—both improbable and wonderfully poetic? What could it possibly mean, as I approach my 40th birthday? Do you have any ideas?

I put the feather away in a safe place, hoping to preserve it and keep it for as long as possible. I'm not sure yet what the best way to store it is, but that information shouldn't be hard to find.

In the meantime, the weekend is starting for me, with some well-deserved rest. Tomorrow, I’ll see the emerald sea near Saint-Cast-le-Guildo; maybe it’ll help me not to think too much about turning 40 in early September. In any case, through this white, fluffy feather, I know that a wanderer of the skies is watching over me. May his life be long and peaceful.
