(Day 2) Application - Pixelmon Datapack ...

(Day 2) Application - Pixelmon Datapack creator

Oct 12, 2023

I worked a bit today on the performance issues that were bothering me most. Unity does not handle large, large dropdown lists well - especially so if you're constantly adding or removing items from them. So I wrote my own dropdown, which works - but isn't flashy. All in all, it's about 80% faster, utilizing object pooling on the children versus adding/removing as needed. I also moved it into an async method so that it hopefully won't freeze up the rest of the UI while processing the search request!

I also worked on some unit testing just to make sure we can load ALL of the Pixelmon data into the application properly without error. In working towards a release, I think it'll be important to minimize crashes. Here is a fun little gif showcasing one of the three unit tests - this one demonstrating that it is possible to load all extant Pixelmon and their forms into the evolution editor:

Finally, I actually made your changes saveable. I was previously very focused on the UI component, since I'm not well-versed in it and wanted it to be OK to use. With the most recent changes, I've added a Save Data button, which will save your files to an output directory. See the creation of PokemonPete and his petemode form below:

Thanks for checking out the changes - please be encouraged to create Issues on the issues section of the Github for bugs or requested features! Speaking of which, there will be an early build tomorrow for those interested. The build will include Pokemon changes, including evolutions, forms and stats, but will not include Mega Evolution, or setting moves for your Pokemon just yet.
