Plan A: The Cross and the God Who Never Pivots
(Based on the sermon: “The Cross Was Not God’s Back-Up Plan”)

This post flows directly from our recent sermon, “The Cross Was Not God’s Back-Up Plan.”
If you haven’t watched it yet or want to revisit it alongside this reflection; you can listen here:

We live with the ache of control.
If we plan well enough, work hard enough, and repent fast enough, maybe we can keep God’s favor secure.

But the sermon presses us into a harder, holier truth: God was never reacting.

Acts 2:23 tells us that Jesus was delivered up “according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God.” Not a pivot. Not a recovery strategy. Not Plan B after humanity failed. The cross was Plan A before the foundation of the world.

As the sermon unfolds, we see how prophecy after prophecy converges at Calvary; not by chance, but by covenant. God spoke. God promised. God fulfilled. The cross stands as proof that history bends toward redemption because God ordained it to.

And then comes the cry that changes everything: Tetelestai.
It is finished.

Not “I’ve done my part.”
Not “Now you take it from here.”
Finished. Paid in full. Completed without remainder.

That’s why this sermon matters so deeply for daily life.

If the cross was God’s definite plan, then:

  • Your salvation is not upheld by your performance.

  • Your obedience flows from rest, not fear.

  • Your faith is anchored in Christ’s finished work, not your spiritual stamina.

FAQs the sermon helps answer:

  • Was God reacting to human sin?
No. Sin was real, but redemption was already planned.

  • What does “definite plan” actually mean?
God’s intentional, sovereign, unchanging purpose—carried out exactly as He willed.

  • How does “It is finished” shape everyday faith?
You stop trying to save yourself and start learning how to live as someone already saved.

If this sermon and reflection served you, if it helped dismantle self-salvation and re-center your hope on Christ alone, consider supporting the work through Buy Me a Coffee. Your support allows us to continue teaching Scripture faithfully, without hype, and under the lordship of Jesus.
